Social Work Month

              March is an exciting month in the Bluegrass State as the days get longer and the sun begins to shine bright on our Old Kentucky Home again. Not only is it a month known for basketball and brackets, it is recognized as National Social Work month. According to the National Association of Social Work, there are nearly 700,000 Social Workers across the U.S.  Although you’ve likely heard of the Social Work profession, there tends to be some ambiguity around what social work is and what social worker’s do. Lets take a look!

 

What is Social Work?

Social work is a profession in which highly educated and trained professionals work with individuals, groups, families, and communities to navigate challenges faced in everyday life and address mental health concerns.

Where do Social Workers work?

·       Hospitals

·       Private practices

·       Schools 

·       Mental Health clinics

·       Child Welfare and Human Service agencies
